Pool Will Not Be Open This Summer

The bids for the Dye Natatorium damage have been sent to the district insurance company for review and selection. The first round of bids were few and very low and were rejected by the TVRPD district manager and board of directors. The insurance company mandated us to go out to bid again and bids were received and forwarded to them. The insurance company is making the decision now as to which one will be selected to do the work. It will be a 90 day process from start to finish and TVRPD does not anticipate the pool being open this summer. The youth involved in the damage to the pool is moving through the court system now and the insurance company is asking the court for restitution of those involved.

Camp Kiya - Music Camp
Events

Tehachapi Mountain Park
July 26 (4pm) – July 28 (noon), 2009

“Kiya” (Kee-ya) means fun and laughter in the local Tehachapi native language, Nuwa (or Kawaiisu). There will be plenty of both this summer at the first Tehachapi music camp held among the pines of Kern County’s Tehachapi Mountain Park. The camp is rustic, with a mess hall for meals and dancing, a campfire circle for gathering and singing, and cabins, campsites and shower facilities. Bring the whole family, or come and make new friends while you explore different aspects of traditional music as well as the Nuwa language and culture, and the natural world of the mountains. Sleep in a cabin, your own tent or RV, or go home every night if you are local. Working spouses are welcome to join us for dinner and evening activities for a small fee.

Music will be taught mostly by ear, and based on fiddle as the most popular lead instrument in traditional music. Fiddle and guitar classes will include all levels, entirely from scratch to advanced. Workshops will also be available for other instruments, as well as Irish step-dancing, contra-dancing, singing and improvisation.

The cost includes camping/cabins, all activities and food. (No discounts for sleeping at home). Fiddles, guitars, ukuleles and cellos are available for rental for a contribution of $25 to the scholarship fund. Rentals must be arranged for in advance.

Bring your family and join us for two days and nights of music in the beautiful, clean, cool air of the lower Sierras. There is something for everyone – from beginners to advanced.
